Ola-Ore Plastic Getaway

This project was another major one for CLAHN, it took place at Ola-Ore Street, Oshodi-Isolo local government, Lagos. Our organization went to this community two weeks in advance to educate the residents on the importance of collecting and keeping recyclable materials, particularly plastic bottles. We spoke to community leaders, business owners, school administrators, and residents to raise awareness about the initiative. Our team distributed bags and boxes for residents to store their collected recyclables.  

After two weeks, we organized a prize-giving day where the winners were awarded based on the number of plastic bottles they recovered. The event also featured an educational talk for residents on the importance of reducing plastic pollution and properly disposing of plastic waste. The community expressed their gratitude for CLAHN's efforts in empowering the residents to contribute to a greener and cleaner environment.   

This project highlights how communities can come together to practice proper waste management and recycling practices at the local level through education, motivation, and organization. We hope to continue partnering with local communities  to scale up our efforts and make a lasting impact on reducing plastic pollution. 

Objectives

• To sensitize them and recover plastic wastes for recycling purposes 

Overall Objective

• To rid the community of plastic waste and raise awareness of the negative impacts of plastic pollution.

Project Activities

• We sensitized the community on the dangers of plastic waste in our ecosystem 

• We collected recyclables, particularly plastic bottles for recycling purposes

•  We organized a Prize Giving Day where the winner of the competition was the one who had the highest quantity of plastics.

• We gave out a deep Freezer to the winner who emerged First Place, second Place got a Smart TV, while third Place, a Standing Fan
